Last Spring, Arizona passed new legislation that establishes higher minimum automobile insurance limits. Of course, like most things related to the Arizona law and the legal field in general, these changes are not necessarily immediate. Nonetheless, your Arizona Injury Lawyers at Torgenson Law are excited to let you know that the day is finally here! Starting July 1, 2020 the Arizona minimum limits for automobile insurance policies are increasing to:
These increases were long overdue. As you may know, the current minimum insurance policy limits are $15,000 per person and $30,000 per incident. These relatively low limits can be particularly frustrating for injury victims especially given the high cost for medical treatment.
For example, let us say you are injured in a car crash and your crash-related medical bills are $20,000. If the driver who hit you has an insurance policy with the current minimum liability limits, the most you will ever receive from his or her insurance would be $15,000. This can be especially unfair because by the time an injury victim has paid off his or her medical bills or liens, there is little if any compensation left over for pain and suffering. With the increased insurance limits and the help of experienced Arizona Injury Lawyers, not only would you be fully compensated for your medical bills, but you could even receive the full $25,000 policy limits to further compensate you for your non-economic damages.
So, how will the new insurance limits affect you? Well, for any insurance policies with minimum limits ($15K/$30K) issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2020, the limits will automatically increase to $25K/$50K/$15K. In addition, if you also have uninsured (UM) and underinsured (UIM) motorist coverage at minimum limits, your insurer will automatically increase those coverages to match the new minimum limits. As always, you should contact your insurance agent if you have any questions regarding your coverage, and check out the Arizona Department of Insurance’s Consumer Report for more information.
At the end of the day, the obvious takeaway from all of this is that $25,000 is greater than $15,000. This jump in minimum limits can make a world of difference in obtaining the compensation you deserve for you personal injuries. At Torgenson Law, we are ready to fight for your personal injury needs. We will not rest until you receive the compensation you deserve. Call us today at (602) 726-0747 for a free case review.
