Happy 243rd Birthday America! At Torgenson Law, the 4th of July is one of our favorite holidays. Independence Day is full of parades, barbecues, picnics, and concerts, to name a few. With so much patriotism and pride for our country in the air this weekend, we sincerely hope that every American has an opportunity to take some time off and enjoy it with their families and friends. However, as Arizona Injury Lawyers, we know that the excitement of this holiday can sometimes cloud judgment. It’s our job as members of the community to remind everyone that to have a successful Fourth of July, it must be a fun AND safe one.
First and foremost, it is vital that are vigilant and cautious on the roadways. The weekend after the Fourth of July is one of the most traveled weekends of the year. With more people moving in and out of our state, flying and celebrating, there is an increased likelihood of motor vehicle crashes. Undoubtedly, many of the festivities occurring this week will involve a few adult beverages. With the widespread availability of various rideshare services, there is simply no excuse to drink and drive. Furthermore, for those of you that are designated drivers, be wary of erratic or dangerous drivers around you.
Fireworks are an essential part of Fourth of July tradition. However, with 40% of American’s attending some firework display, whether at home or the local park, it is essential to remember that fireworks are explosives and should always be handled with care. Fireworks are dangerous when handled by professionals and non-professionals alike, and when that is mixed with alcohol or the general chaos or excitement of the holiday, the dangers and risks associated with fireworks become even more prominent. Accordingly, use protective gear, proper judgment and supervision when you or your loved ones are handling these explosives.
Another safety issue that Torgenson Law has preached about extensively is pool safety. Backyard barbecues and pool parties are the norms during this holiday. In the middle of the summer, Arizona weather creates the perfect environment for pool activities and games. However, an unsupervised pool can become another source of liability if safety is not assured. Having pool fences and keeping pools up to standard can make such a big difference for the protection of all guests, especially children or those that have been consuming alcohol. Never let anyone swim alone, don’t run on wet surfaces, and stay alert to any other hazard that can present itself.
The Fourth of July is a time to gather with friends and family to celebrate America’s birthday. However, unintended injuries can happen at any given moment. If you or a loved one suffers personal injuries, we, at Torgenson Law, are here for you. Again, happy Fourth of July and remember to call or text us (602) 726-0747 for a free consultation if you have a potential personal injury claim.
