Christmas in July: A Surprise for Deserving Clients
At Torgenson Law, we believe in giving back and helping good people who are injured. This year, for the first time, we decided to bless a deserving client and family with “Christmas in July.” The Torgenson Law Team came together to bring some joy and hope to a deserving family who are in the unfortunate situation of catastrophic injuries and little to no insurance money available to pay for those injuries. In addition to handling their case fully pro bono (free of charge), we wanted to give them a Christmas in July to help them get by and bring some happiness to some extremely difficult times for this family. We are inspired by their strength in the face of such horrific injuries and financial stress. In our vocation as a personal injury law firm, we help good human beings rebuild their life after something tragic happens to them. Here, given the lack of insurance available, we wanted to go above and beyond to help this family.
Preparation and Wish Lists
Preparation for our first Christmas in July began with John Torgenson and Valerie Cochlin brainstorming how we can help this family even though the insurance money was not available to fully compensate them. Corina got involved (this family is amazing and some of her favorite clients) and we reached out to them to see what their wish lists were. The ages of the recipients ranged from 2 years old to 17 years old, along with their adult mother. We knew they had gone through a lot this year, so we wanted to make sure the gifts were meaningful and brought smiles to their faces. Our team was able to receive their wish lists, and we paid very close attention to each client’s personal interests and needs.
Staff Involvement and Wrapping Gifts
Once we were able to gather all the wish lists, we went to work purchasing the items to make the Christmas in July magic happen! We purchased school clothes, shoes, learning tablets, books, crafts, and toys for the children. For mom, we purchased gift cards from various retailers and grocery stores. Our Torgenson Law Team had a great time wrapping presents, labeling gifts, all with the goal of blowing this family and make their year better, if even for one day! Some of our younger (less experienced) summer employees even learned how to wrap gifts! Everyone had a great time, enjoyed some pizza, and ended the day with a smile and some laughs.
The Big Event
The big day had finally come. When the family walked in, they were so happy and couldn’t wait to open their gifts. Everyone in the room had a smile on their face. Watching this beautiful family open their presents and seeing their faces light up made this an experience we will never forget and assured that this is something that we will continue to do! John Torgenson really appreciated the opportunity: “We are so lucky and fortunate to have picked a vocation in which our job is, at its core, basic – we get to help good human beings every single day. After seeing those kids’ faces light up, this is now an annual TorgLaw tradition!”
